What is it with bagpipes that so stir the soul
especially when played on an old craggy knoll;
a lone piper standing in swirling wet mist
expressing the need for souls to be kissed.
For weddings or funerals he will offer to play
the sound of the bagpipes providing the way
to enter, or depart, whatever the occasion
he'll play for the gathering with little persuasion.
Most people will know when they see him in place
that he will pipe for them the Amazing Grace;
a well known tune with words that go deep
often producing creased eyes which then weep
for who was once family with memories of old
as they sadly release their love from the fold.....
