Little Golden Suns.....

Ahhhh, a pleasant childhood memory for me today, which was finding and eating cape gooseberries! The filigree pods fascinated me, especially when you could see through them and spy the ripe fruit. Methinks this fruit was purposely created for children to find and enjoy, as there is something quite magical about their form, structure and of course, the taste! Little fingers could unwrap these delightful berries quite easily, before popping the fruit into hungry mouths. The trick was to only eat the orange ones as any pale fruit was firm, sour and gritty with tiny seeds...

Small orange sunbursts

encased in lacy cocoons

await their purpose.....

A dversepoets' prompt to write a poem about fruit and/or the seasons of fruit. I have chosen to pen a haibun about the humble cape gooseberry which is not so easily found these days.

Here is the Link: Always in Season
