August School Break...

Piecrust

moon dust

wanderlust

August;

school's out

children shout

no more chalk dust!

Jump twice

clap thrice

tripping on a dry crust!

Made you trip

out you flip

landing in the sawdust!

Sanaa from dverse poets has prompted us to write about the month of August. For me I instantly thought of the school holidays when I was a child. The August break was always a relief after the cold of winter here in the Southern hemisphere. The little country school was old and cold, with the pot bellied stove in the corner of the classroom glowing red if we were able to stoke it well enough! Funnily enough, as a child one didn't notice the cold when on school break!

Somehow or other I came up with a skipping rope chant!
